Air Canada has launched its first flights between London Heathrow and the Indian financial hub Mumbai.
The flights are part of the daily Toronto-Mumbai route and allow Air Canada to offer a non-stop service between London and Mumbai for the first time using its “fifth freedom” rights.
Air Canada operated the first flight on the route on Monday (7 November) and the service is due to operate until 24 March 2023.
Stephen Gerrard, Air Canada’s general manager sales, UK and Ireland, said: “This is a very special moment and we are pleased to provide greater travel choice to our customers in the UK with a direct link to India’s city of dreams, Mumbai.”
The new service between Heathrow and Mumbai will be operated with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, featuring three cabins: Signature Class (business), premium economy and economy.
Air Canada is planning to expand its long-haul services between Canada and Europe for summer 2023, with new Toronto-Brussels, Montreal-Toulouse and Montreal-Copenhagen routes from June.
