Air Canada has placed an order for 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners with an option for 12 more aircraft as the carrier moves to renew its long-haul fleet.
Deliveries of the new aircraft are projected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 with completion of all 18 Dreamliners by the first quarter of 2027.
The 787-10 Dreamliner, which is a longer version of this type of aircraft, can accommodate more than 330 passengers depending on the seat configuration used by the airline.
Air Canada said that the new aircraft will replace older, less efficient widebody aircraft currently in its fleet.
Michael Rousseau, president and CEO of Air Canada, added: "Air Canada has made investing in the passenger experience a core priority. Our experience shows customers greatly enjoy flying on the Dreamliner, so we are pleased to offer them a larger version of this popular aircraft.
“As importantly, the 787 is highly fuel efficient and will generate operational savings as well as support our sustainability goals of reducing emissions.”
Air Canada is also acquiring 28 extra-long range versions of the Airbus A321neo aircraft, which will begin to be delivered in 2025.
