Emirates has expanded its partnership with sustainable aviation fuel provider Neste with an agreement to accept more than 3 million gallons of SAF, the carrier announced on Wednesday (18 October).
The fuel will be a blend of 30 per cent neat SAF combined with conventional Jet A-1 fuel and will be used in 2024 and 2025 for Emirates flights departing from Amsterdam Schiphol and Singapore Changi airports.
This expanded partnership represents the "largest volume of SAF to be uplifted of any airline based in the Middle East or Africa to date," according to the carrier.
Emirates president Tim Clark said the ‘milestone’ represents “the acceleration of SAF procurement for our operations… and we hope that the robust demand coming from Emirates and other airlines encourages the scaling up of SAF and other emerging clean propulsion technologies”.
The carrier currently operates flights with blended SAF from Paris, Lyon and Oslo.
