The Russian invasion of Ukraine created an immediate impact on flight bookings in Europe and Russia domestically with sharp declines.
Figures from ForwardKeys revealed that in the week from 24 February to 2 March destinations closest to the conflict saw the biggest falls.
Countries including Bulgaria, Georgia, Hungary and Poland saw bookings fall between 30 per cent and 50 per cent. Domestic flight bookings in Russia fell 49 per cent.
All other European countries saw bookings decline between 10 per cent and 30 per cent except Belgium, Iceland and Serbia which saw declines in single digits.
Flight bookings within Europe were down 23 per cent compared to transatlantic flight bookings from the US which dipped 13 per cent.
Serbia, the last remaining air corridor between Russia and the rest of Europe, saw an increase in capacity, up 50 per cent for flights from Russia to the destination in the first week of March compared to 21 February.
