Lufthansa’s new short-haul subsidiary City Airlines has announced its first routes which are due to start operating this summer.
The new airline, which was announced last year, will operate feeder flights for Lufthansa from its main hubs at Munich and Frankfurt.
Initially, Lufthansa City Airlines will operate flights from Munich to the domestic destinations of Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Hanover, as well as international services to Birmingham, Manchester and Bordeaux.
These flights can be booked from the end of April but further details of the schedule have yet to be revealed.
The company said that the carrier would then “gradually expand its network and offer further destinations in Europe” during the following months.
Two Airbus A319s have already been painted in the airline’s new livery, while the group has ordered 40 Airbus A220-300 aircraft for City Airlines with another 20 purchase options.
“The competitive strengthening of the short-haul network is essential for strengthening the Lufthansa Group's market position and the planned growth of Lufthansa long-haul routes,” said the company in a statement.
“Passengers on board Lufthansa City Airlines can expect the Lufthansa product offering and customer experience for short and medium-haul routes.”
