The oneworld airline alliance has opened its first branded lounge in Europe at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The new 473-sqm lounge, which comes just weeks after the alliance debuted its lounge concept at Seoul’s Incheon Airport, features a range of spaces for working and relaxing – including semi-private study nooks – a contemporary bar, mood lighting throughout and fittings and furnishings ‘that pay homage to life in the Netherlands’.
As in Seoul, oneworld collaborated with ground services provider Swissport to launch the Amsterdam lounge, which is located in the airport’s non-Schengen departure area and, according to the alliance, is ‘no more than 10 minutes away’ from member airlines’ departure gates.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is served by eight oneworld member airlines: American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc and Royal Jordanian.
Gerhard Girkinger, oneworld vice president, customer experience, delivery and membership, described the opening as “a proud moment” while the alliance continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
“Customers can expect a modern setting that blends refined fixtures and fittings with digital technologies and warm, ergonomic seating areas, offering a memorable travel experience,” he said.
Swissport International AG global vice president, executive lounges, David Collyer, added: “After partnering with the oneworld alliance on their fully branded lounge at Incheon, we are delighted to be working together again on oneworld’s first lounge in Europe, which looks fantastic.
“Our hospitality products are carefully developed to meet the unique and evolving needs of our airline, alliance and airport partners.”
The new lounge is open daily between 5:30 and 20:00 for eligible oneworld Emerald and Sapphire customers departing from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport outside of the Schengen area, as well as first and business class customers travelling with oneworld member airlines.
