Data analytics specialist Prime Numbers Technology has added carbon emissions reporting for air, car, hotel and rail travel to its Prime Analytics software.
The platform, which is used both by companies for their travel programmes and travel management companies (TMCs), is using a variety of sources to calculate emissions from different types of travel services. The data will be available to customers around the world.
Prime Numbers’ president Mark Bresnahan said car emissions are sourced from the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). It is also using DEFRA for air emissions calculations, alongside the US Environmental Protection Agency and the company's own legacy calculations.
For hotels, Prime Numbers is taking CO2 data from the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmark index where available and HotelFootprints.org to fill the gaps for countries not included in the index.
Rail carbon calculations come directly from operators, with DEFRA and other sources supplementing when direct data is not available, explained Bresnahan.
US-based Prime Numbers is now integrating with preferred carbon offset providers for offset purchases. The company is also working on a carbon budget analysis tool for companies to monitor and manage their net carbon impact.
“By automating emission calculations, purchasing offsets and establishing budgets in one platform, organisations can effectively monitor and manage their sustainability initiatives with ease,” said Bresnahan.
