Lamington Group, the real estate investor and developers, and founders of the room2 aparthotels has B Corp status.
Founded by brothers, Robert and Stuart Godwin, Lamington
Group is focused on the extended stay accommodation sector, with the
room2 brand operating in London's Chiswick and Hammersmith, Southampton and most recently Belfast.
The news comes as corporates increasingly focus on scope 3 emissions with the CSRD regulations coming into play in January.
Robert and Stuart Godwin, CEO and managing director of Lamington
Group said: “To achieve this status is a huge milestone for us, and
reflects our commitment to sustainable hospitality, whilst reaffirming
our values to always put people and the planet first.
"We
believe that businesses have a responsibility to contribute positively
to society and the environment, and this certification affirms our
dedication to these principles."
Chris Turner, executive
director of B Lab UK, which carries out the certification process said: “This is a movement of companies who are
committed to changing how business operates and believe business really
can be a power for good”.
The group has gained B Corp certification status through several initiatives and practices including:
- A Net Zero Roadmap, which sets out to encourage collaboration across the industry;
- The launch of room2 Belfast, which opened in October and has a gold rating in the Green Tourism Award, and Platinum in the Greengage ECOsmart Accreditation as well as running on 100 per cent electric and renewable energy;
- Its flagship property in London room2 Chiswick which opened in 2021 as a life net zero ‘hometel’;
- The “Team Planet'' initiative, an internal campaign for team members with monthly events and regular communications;
- Supporting local communities through working with artists and craftsmen to create unique features in the properties.
