British Airways and Qatar Airways are planning to extend their
joint business to offer customers access to more destinations on their
respective networks.
The news comes after BA relaunched daily flights from Gatwick
to Doha, giving its passengers access to more than 100 destinations on the
Qatar Airways network.
This winter, the airlines will operate up to six daily
flights between London and Doha – five from Heathrow and one from Gatwick.
The proposed expansion of their partnership would give
passengers enhanced access from Europe to destinations in the Middle East,
Asia, Africa and Australasia, including Singapore, Sydney, Colombo and Nairobi.
It will also improve access to destinations across Europe such as Amsterdam,
Madrid and Dublin.
BA and Qatar Airways expect to receive news of any relevant regulatory approvals for
the proposed expansion in the first half of 2022.
Qatar Airways owns a 25.1 per cent stake in BA owner International Airlines Group (IAG).
