US carrier JetBlue and Ireland-based Aer Lingus have
expanded their codeshare agreement to a bilateral partnership. JetBlue will
place its code on four routes, between New York's JFK airport and Boston's
Logan International to each Dublin and Shannon.
The carriers have had a unilateral codesharing agreement
since 2013, in which Aer Lingus placed its code on flights to dozens of JetBlue
destinations in the US.
Benefits to flyers include having a single ticket for
flights operated by both carriers, one-stop check-in and baggage transfer, and
for passengers travelling to the US from Ireland, customs pre-clearance prior
to departing Dublin or Shannon.
JetBlue plans to add its code to other select Aer Lingus
routes beyond Ireland in the near future, according to the company.
