Irish carrier Air Lingus and new franchise partner Emerald
Airlines have brought forward plans to re-launch regional flights by nearly a
year.
The carriers signed a 10-year franchise agreement in August
after former Aer Lingus partner Stobart Air ceased trading. The partnership was
originally planned to begin in January 2023, but the companies have now
announced plans to launch 11 routes from Dublin beginning 17 March 2022.
Flights will be operated by Emerald Airlines as
Aer Lingus Regional, with tickets now on sale.
According to Aer Lingus, high-frequency routes such as Dublin-Edinburgh
and Dublin-Glasgow will be served up to four times a day, while services to
other parts of the UK such as Newquay, Exeter and Isle of Man will be
re-established for the first time since June this year.
The re-start of regional flights means Aer Lingus customers flying
from UK airports will once again be able to connect to the airline’s US
services to destinations such as New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle.
