Air France-KLM has invested $4.7 million in DG Fuels, a US-based producer of sustainable aviation fuel, and agreed to purchase up to an additional 25 million gallons (75,000 tons) of SAF annually over a multi-year period beginning in 2029, the airline company announced on Friday (10 November).
The SAF commitment is in addition to the 600,000 tons of SAF Air France-KLM agreed to buy in October 2022 for delivery between 2027 and 2036.
Constance Thio, EVP human resources and sustainability at Air France-KLM, said this is the first time the group has made a financial investment in a SAF producer “and we look forward to further reinforcing our long-term partnership with DG Fuels”, he said.
The $4.7 million investment will be used to support the completion the "development work necessary to reach the final investment decision on DG Fuels' first sustainable aviation fuel plant, which will be located in Louisiana," according to the company.
