Lufthansa is to cancel up to 90 per cent of all scheduled flights on Wednesday (7 February) when the airline’s ground staff are due to hold a one-day strike.
Around 25,000 members of the Verdi union are set to walk out from 4am on Wednesday until 7.10am on Thursday (8 February) as part of a pay dispute with Lufthansa.
“Due to the strike, we currently assume that around 10 to 20 per cent of the Lufthansa Airline programme will be possible on 7 February,” said the airline in an update.
“Passengers affected by flight cancellations as a result of the Verdi strike will be informed by email or via the Lufthansa app. We regret the inconvenience for our guests.”
Lufthansa had been scheduled to operate around 1,000 flights on Wednesday.
“Please only come to the airport if your flight has not been cancelled. Due to the strike, the rebooking counters are unfortunately not staffed,” the airline said in an advisory to passengers.
Travellers can rebook free of charge if their flight is cancelled and the airline is also allowing those passengers on domestic German flights to convert their ticket into a rail voucher via the Lufthansa website.
