UK airports Manchester and London Stansted both achieved record-breaking passenger traffic for February.
The airports, which are part of Manchester Airports Group (MAG), each catered for around 1.9 million passengers during the month.
London Heathrow also announced a record-breaking February earlier this week as UK airports benefited from school holidays and the extra “leap year” day in the month.
Manchester airport’s traffic for February was 14 per cent higher than in 2023 and was also up by 6 per cent on the same month in 2019, while Stansted’s performance was an increase of 12 per cent year-on-year and 3 per cent higher than in February 2019.
“Even without the extra leap day year, passenger numbers for both airports would have still exceeded all previous records,” said MAG in a statement.
The group’s other airport, East Midlands, saw a 33 per cent year-on-year increase in passengers with monthly traffic reaching 183,000 in February but this was still 15 per cent below 2019 levels.
As a whole, MAG catered for 4 million passengers across its three airports in February, which was up by 14 per cent on the same month in 2023.
