Virgin Atlantic has announced a second daily service between Heathrow and Johannesburg OR Tambo International airport starting 28 October.
Tickets for the extra service go on sale 24 March. Flights will depart Heathrow at 1645 and land in Johannesburg at 0540 local time, with return services leaving South Africa at 2220 and arriving at 0730 local time.
The flights will be operated by Virgin Atlantic’s B787-9, which offers Upper Class and Premium cabins, as well as the airline’s new three-tiered Economy cabin, with 36 Delight extra legroom seats.
Shai Weiss, chief commercial officer at Virgin Atlantic, said: “Virgin Atlantic has been proud to serve South Africa for over 20 years. Johannesburg is one of the most popular destinations on our network so we’re delighted to add a second daily service to create even more travel opportunities for our customers.”
The news follows South African Airways’ decision to reduce its Johannesburg route to a single daily flight from 20 April.
