Australia will remove its requirement for vaccinated travellers to take a pre-departure Covid-19 test from 17 April.
The country reopened its borders to fully vaccinated international passengers in February after being closed for nearly two years due to the pandemic.
Australian health minister Greg Hunt announced the further relaxation of the country’s Covid measures on Friday (25 March) following advice from the chief medical officer.
“International travellers into and out of Australia will still be required to provide proof of double vaccination against Covid-19,” said Hunt.
“Travellers will also still be required to wear a mask while on international flights based on medical advice.”
Hunt added that the Australian government had “taken strong action over the course of the pandemic to protect Australians”.
“Shutting the international borders early was a tough but decisive action, which enabled Australia to manage the pandemic and minimise the loss of life,” said the minister.
Unvaccinated travellers will continue to need a valid travel exemption to enter Australia.
