Lufthansa Group has launched a platform in conjunction
with a climate tech startup to allow companies and individuals to calculate the
carbon emissions of their whole journey.
The Squake platform, which connects to providers throughout
a journey using standard application programming interfaces (API), allows users
to calculate the emissions from every part of their journey, such as flights, rental
cars, ferries and buses. The calculated emissions can then be offset during the
booking process using a range of climate protection projects that are certified
to the highest industry standards, such as the Gold Standard or the Plan Vivo
Standard.
Squake can be integrated into third-party portals
and the group says that companies in the travel management, shared mobility,
and logistics sectors have already done so including BizAway (pictured).
"The travel and mobility market is urgently
looking for effective solutions to increase sustainability. Our answer to this
is the climate tech startup Squake, which helps companies accelerate their
development of sustainable products," said Christine Wang, managing director
Lufthansa Innovation Hub.
"With Squake, we are able to make our offsetting
expertise accessible beyond aviation. It is only possible to achieve
sustainability in the long term if we work together, which is why we rely on
cooperation within the market and between the participating companies. Our
vision for Squake is that it will provide a ‘green-tech backbone’ for travel
and mobility."
