Global TMC Reed & Mackay has acquired the Business Travel Direct division of Ickenham Travel Group for an undisclosed sum.
According to Reed & Mackay, both companies have experienced growth over the last two years and are closely aligned in terms of industry sectors and a client-first mindset.
The deal follows a busy 12 months for the TMC, which has opened an office in New York City, acquired Concierge Travel Group in Australia and formed a strategic alliance with Munckhof Business Travel in the Netherlands. The company has also partnered with Connexus Travel in China.
Speaking to BBT earlier this month, CEO Fred Stratford hinted that the firm would be looking at further acquisitions following last year’s purchase of Hillgate Travel, but only in cases where there is client demand in a particular region and if there is a good culture fit between the two businesses.
Commenting on the Business Travel Direct deal, Stratford said: “This continues to be a truly exciting time for our people and our clients. Our focus has always been on strategic growth, built both organically and through acquisition where there is a natural and strong alignment to our core values.”
Stratford said Business Travel Direct will operate as a “key division of Reed & Mackay” under the leadership of its managing director Julie Oliver.
Peter Reglar, CEO of Business Travel Direct, added: “After 49 years with this amazing business and team, this is now a fantastic opportunity for our clients, colleagues and partners, and brings with it a range of additional benefits. Our clients can look forward to receiving the same great service, delivered by the same award-winning teams in the same locations, but now with the backing of a truly global TMC.”
Oliver said: “As a company, Business Travel Direct has always looked for ways to enhance our service offering for the benefit of our clients and we’re very excited for a bright future together with Reed & Mackay – it’s a very natural fit for us. We share a focus on exemplary customer service and continual innovation, as well as a long-standing heritage of excellence in travel and an entrepreneurial spirit.”
Stratford continued: “I have great admiration for Peter Reglar, Julie Oliver and the wider management team and am delighted to be joining forces... I am very pleased to welcome Julie and her team to Reed & Mackay.”
