Travel management company Reed & Mackay today announced it has committed to setting carbon reduction targets, including reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The UK-based TMC will now have two years to formulate its net-zero targets and present them to SBTi for validation.
Reed & Mackay group CEO, Fred Stratford, said the commitment “not only helps us ensure we remain focused on our own net-zero targets, it assures our clients that they have chosen a travel management company that puts its sustainability plans into action”.
The move is the latest initiative to improve the TMC’s sustainability efforts, following the development of a sustainability module for clients to manage travel programmes in accordance with CO2 parameters and a partnership with Neste for sustainable aviation biofuels.
The company is also part of the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative to encourage sustainable policy implementation, and in April of this year, the TMC was awarded the EcoVadis Gold rating.
“Over the last couple of years, we have had an incredible level of engagement with our clients on the topic of sustainability and have made ambitious investments to address the urgent need to reduce carbon emissions within the travel sector,” said Christopher Truss, Reed & Mackay’s international development and sustainability director.
“We are proud to step up and make this commitment to SBTi. We know that several of our clients have done the same and we are pleased to align behind a collective mission to set meaningful and impactful emissions reductions targets,” he added.
