France-based hotel company Accor plans to open around 300 properties in 2022, representing about a quarter of its total global pipeline of new hotels.
Planned openings for Accor in Europe over the next 12 months include properties such as Raffles London at The OWO (Old War Office) in central London, which featured in BTN Europe's 2022 Hotlist, as well as Sofitel Barcelona Skipper and Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village.
In addition, Accor plans to open more properties through its Ennismore lifestyle-brand joint venture, including three The Hoxton properties in Barcelona, Brussels and Shepherd’s Bush in London; as well as Maison Delano Paris, 25hours Copenhagen and Mama Shelter Paris La Defense.
Accor’s growth in 2022 is expected to be even higher than 2021 when the company opened 288 properties worldwide, adding a total of 41,000 rooms to give the company more than 5,300 hotels and 778,000 rooms across all brands. Luxury and premium segments represent nearly 40 per cent of future openings for Accor.
Europe was the number one market for hotel development in 2021 with Accor signing 153 new hotels across the continent.
The company’s total development pipeline now stands at more than 1,200 properties and 214,000 rooms, with more than 40 per cent of projects now being renovations of existing buildings rather than new builds.
Agnes Roquefort, Accor’s global chief development officer, said: “In 2021, we continued to reinforce our leadership position in the regions where we have historically led the competition, while building strong momentum in the key markets of North America and China.
“We are projecting an even higher pace of growth this year and are pleased to have resumed signing new hotels at a rate of one per day.”
