Extended stay booking platform AltoVita has launched a new carbon calculator to measure CO2 emissions for each night’s stay on all accommodation it features.
AltoVita is providing the emissions information, which it has dubbed EcoStats, through an API integration with carbon data specialist Thrust Carbon.
The move follows the introduction of a similar carbon calculator by serviced apartment agency Silverdoor last month.
AltoVita’s EcoStats is free to use and the company said it would allow clients to compare emissions performance “as easily as rates and amenities”.
EcoStats assesses several sustainability metrics to calculate the CO2 emissions per night for each property offered through AltoVita. These metrics include certifications, renewable energy use, carbon tracking, lighting efficiency, single plastic use, recycling and responsible sourcing.
Mikhail Lortkipanidze, senior product manager at AltoVita, added: “EcoStats is a sustainability suite and eventually it will not just include CO2 quantities, but multiple indicators, such as length of stay, seasonality and the number of guests, that help businesses and travellers make more informed decisions.”
“We’re thinking long-term, to make it compliant with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.”
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which is being phased in from January 2024, will require larger EU-based companies and some other firms with operations in the EU to report their business and commuter travel emissions.
AltoVita’s platform features more than 7 million properties across 35,000 cities in 165 countries around the world.
