Global travel management company CWT has partnered with emissions data platform Thrust Carbon to introduce a carbon footprint calculator designed specifically for meetings and events (M&E).
The new tool, aimed at events of between 200 and 50,000 delegates, combines carbon data related to travel, hotel stays, meeting space and food & beverage consumption to provide "detailed environmental impact insights" to both CWT event planners and clients, the TMC said.
The tool analyses and reports on both individual and collective delegate carbon emission and waste data across the entire event lifecycle, from planning to completion. According to the TMC, the calculator maps emission data against each individual customer’s own carbon benchmarks for current and future events and highlights areas where more sustainable options could be used.
Global head at CWT Meetings & Events, Ian Cummings, said the tool will allow clients to “operationalise” sustainable meetings and “help them realise their carbon-emissions reduction strategies”.
“This year, in-person meetings have outstripped virtual and hybrid events by ten to one, with nearly all of our M&E customers and prospects citing ambitious long-term corporate sustainability goals for their organisations,” he said.
The move, which follows CWT’s launch of carbon emission dashboards and carbon footprint indicators last year, will enhance the TMC’s existing partnership with Thrust Carbon and comes after an “intensive” six-month pilot programme where the TMC tested the tool on its own and selected customer events.
