Hilton Worldwide plans to hire 1,500 refugees throughout Europe during the next three years, the company announced last week during the Tent Foundation European Business Summit in Paris.
The hotel firm said that its plan, which will be in collaboration with Tent Partnership for Refugees, would aid the hotel company's effort to create five million “learning and career growth opportunities globally by 2030”.
To achieve this, Hilton will support Tent's “efforts in creating employment pathways for under-represented groups”, including refugees, minorities, persons with disabilities, military veterans and their families.
The move will also serve to fill some of the many vacancies across the hospitality industry following the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Hilton, the company has hired more than 400 refugees across 73 hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region since 2022. Hilton originally partnered with Tent in 2018 as the first hospitality company involved with the organisation.
Laura Fuentes, chief human resources officer at Hilton, added: “Hilton was founded with the purpose to spread the light and warmth of hospitality – to be a beacon of hope and engine of opportunity. Part of this commitment is to create career pathways for all.”
Hilton's pledge joins a list of other industry leaders making the public hiring commitment, including Marriott International. Marriott plans to hire more than 1,500 refugees in the US by 2025 and more than 1,500 refugees in Europe by 2026.
