Hyatt is to further increase its presence within Europe as part of its expansion into the wider EAME (Europe, Africa and Middle East) region.
The US-based hotel company said that 45 per cent of its 120 new properties in 2022 were located in EAME, with a “strong pipeline” of new hotels set to continue this momentum in the region.
One of the biggest moves this year will be imminent arrival of the JdV by Hyatt brand in Germany following the announcement of Hyatt’s partnership with local hospitality firm Lindner Hotels in October 2022. This agreement will increase Hyatt’s footprint in Europe by 5,500 rooms.
Hyatt has already tripled the number of hotels in its portfolio in Europe over the past four years and expanded its presence into 15 new European markets.
Other developments in Europe include the first Grand Hyatt in Spain with the Grand Hyatt La Manga Club and Resort, which is due to open in the second half of this year.
The company recently opened the Hyatt Regency London Albert Embankment, with the Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars (formerly Crowne Plaza London - The City) due to follow shortly. While Park Hyatt London River Thames in the Nine Elms development is also set to debut during the first quarter of 2024.
Hyatt Regency will add new resorts in Pravets, Bulgaria, and Montenegro’s Kotor Bay in summer 2023. Other newcomers will include two properties in Switzerland later this year under The Unbound Collection by Hyatt banner for independent hotels, with the Grand Hansa Hotel in Finland also set to join the portfolio early next year.
Javier Aguila, Hyatt’s group president for EAME, said the region would “continue to be a strong contributor to Hyatt’s global growth journey in the coming years”.
