IHG Hotels & Resorts is to re-enter the Swedish market after announcing the signing of the voco Stockholm Kista.
The hotel giant has agreed a franchise deal with Mogotel for the 201-room property on the northern outskirts of the Swedish capital, which is due to open in the second half of this year.
Voco Hotels, which is one of IHG’s premium brands, has been growing quickly over the past year and now has nearly 40 European properties either already open or signed in markets such as the UK, France, Spain, Austria, Portugal and Belgium.
Willemijn Geels, VP of development, Europe, for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “We have seen significant growth momentum with our voco hotels brand since it launched in 2018 and this signing reinforces that we are on our way to reaching the brand’s global ambition of 200 properties in leading urban and leisure locations by 2028.”
Voco Stockholm Kista is located in the Kista district of Stockholm, which is known as Sweden’s Silicon Valley, and will be adjacent to Nordic Forum, one of the area’s largest office redevelopments. The hotel’s facilities will include five meetings and event spaces.
IHG has also announced plans for a new Holiday Inn & Suites Budapest Centrale in the Hungarian capital. The 170-room property is due to open in the second half of 2026.
The hotel will be part of a mixed-use development directly above Puskas Ferenc Stadion metro station and transport hub. Facilities will include 25 long-stay suites with kitchenettes, as well as a restaurant, lobby bar and meeting room.
