Budget chain easyHotel is investing €1.5 million across its owned European properties to further reduce the group’s carbon footprint.
The carbon reduction initiatives are expected to drive 18 per cent of
the chain's CO2 savings and will be implemented by the end of this year.
The company, which promotes itself as a “low carbon affordable hotel
chain”, currently operates 42 hotels in 11 countries, including openings last year in Dublin and Paris.
The investment will be spent on improving energy efficiency in 10 properties across France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain, with further locations expected to be announced at a later period.
Initiatives at the properties will include the installation of heat pumps and motion sensor LED lights, improved control systems and raising awareness about energy use among both staff and guests.
The news from easyHotels follows a similar announcement in April 2023 that it is investing £4.5 million in reducing its carbon footprint across 12 UK locations, due to be completed by 2025.
Karim Malak, CEO of easyHotel, said: "Last year’s investment into our UK portfolio was a pivotal moment to address our emissions and we’re proud to be extending this initiative with this additional investment into more of our European portfolio."
The European properties benefiting from the investment are Amsterdam Arena Boulevard, Amsterdam City Centre, Barcelona Fira, Brussels City Centre Hotel, Paris Charles De Gaulle Villepinte, Maastricht City Centre, Rotterdam City Centre, Paris Nord Aubervilliers, The Hague City Centre and The Hague Scheveningen Beach.
